I have a top of the line home theater, so I could care less about listening to music in the car. The sound system in the Odyssey is still marginal at best.

I don't need a DVD system or high tech radio. Now, a lot of the basic nice stuff is gone in favor of expensive crap that some could care less about and costs a fortune to fix or replace. On the other hand a lot of us are working on our 5th and 6th Hondas. What did Ford do? They took them off the market because they lasted too long. Those engines were bullet proof and required very little maintenance. They all had the 6 cylinder, 300 CID engine. With the crappy build quality, reduction in nice basic features, over-priced OEM parts, inferior OEM part quality - you may as well try out the other minivans because it's questionable if the 5th generation Odyssey will outlast its predecessors. Yes, the other car makers have their problems too, but the overall spirit I've read about in the past year is, Honda has slipped backward in so many ways. This generation was built on 'what are the other guys putting in their cars' not 'how do we retain our existing customers and attract new ones.' Jbreland also mentions that Honda has become out of touch with the customer. Honda still makes the best minivan but that status can easily crumble overnight. I also have a damn central vac that still hasn't got a single kid's Cheerio in it after one year. I never use my sunroof, which will likely leak someday. Even worse, they try to tickle your buying bone with all this electronic crap or options a lot of people don't even want. I think everyone is saying that Honda has removed so many of the nice little things we all enjoyed in earlier generations, and for what, pennies in profit per car? Pennies of profit per car is false economics when all you do is piss off the poor sap who just put >$45,000 on the table for less basics. Honda has one hell of a good reputation, but they have definitely lost tone. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if Toyota is sitting quietly in the wings monitoring all the fool-hardy crap that the Generation 5 Odysseys have been laced with and are ready to pounce with a killer product that blows the Odyssey away. Gee, would that save them $1.50 per van?!! Think of the increased profits!!Īll kidding aside, many forum members have noticed that SO many nice things the good old Hondas had, have been stripped away for God only knows what the hell reason. Then again, the idiot engineers at Honda, who don't even drive a car, chose to NOT give the LX and EX a basic damn compass! It wouldn't surprise me to see Honda try to nickel and dime the Americans by pulling the low washer fluid sensor. I think all cars in the past 20 years at least, have had that warning.
